How my smartphone kept me out of trouble

mobile_accountingDo you have a smartphone?  Have you accessed QuickBooks Online from your smartphone?  It works on Blackberry and iPhone.  Our first mobile release simply allowed folks to view information and we heard resoundingly that was great BUT getting work done on the road was critical too… so now you can create invoices.  Have you found yourself using your smartphone in ways that surprise you?

Facebook on my iPhone saved me from forgetting my fiancé’s birthday last year.  Boy, was that a surprise!  It was definitely a reminder to how much that little device has changed my life.  I’d had a Blackberry for years and I’d have to say – no surprises for me.  It was pretty much my inbox and calendar in my pocket.  And I loved it for that.

Then I got an iPhone and overnight I became addicted with pretty much everything!  Any downtime (standing in lines, waiting for anything, etc.) instantly became iPhone-time.  I quickly became a Facebook addict.  I started reading the New York Times, all curled up in one of our big comfy chairs at home.  My twitter fascination began – more specifically, my fascination with Lance Armstrong’s twitter feed began.  I started becoming connected at live events in ways I’d never imagined.  I’ve always looooved the web, but my new level of addiction was surprising even to me.  What good would it all do?  My answer came a few short months later in the nearly-missed birthday episode.

I was standing in line at Crate & Barrel after work.  iPhone time.  Scrolling through the Facebook status updates… “ahh, kicking back with a Belgian Beer”… “just bought a longboard at Costco!”… “so this is what it feels like to be another year older”.  What?  What’s my husband talking about “a year older”?  Uh, OH.  The good news (for this story and my life in general) is that he’s an amazing cook and I was literally inside Crate & Barrel.  Phew.  I peeled out of the line and headed off to go birthday shopping.

QuickBooks Online Mobile won’t help you forget missed birthdays, but sometimes even just having customer information on-the-go can help you answer some of your many customer questions!

  1. Heather,

Good information about the I-Phone integration. I was talking to my client who is a painter for residential homes. He told me he needed to send out invoices to his client’s right after he left their house but usually had to go home to create the invoice and that took a lot of time out of his day in case he needed to visit other clients. I asked him if he had an I-Phone. He said yes. I told him to send those invoices with the I-Phone right when he closes his client’s door after looking at the house. He was so excited. His cheeks even got pink. Of course, for other’s safety, I told him to send out the invoice while he was parked :) . You all are doing good things!

Hey Brian – nothing like a true story to show how this stuff matters. Thanks.

I was excited to read that mobile access was finally expanded beyond read-only, however, you fail to mention that is for iPhone only and doesn’t include Blackberry. My Blackberry still has read-only access (just logged in with it) and QBOE KnowledgeBase Document ID 2862 confirms that Blackberry is still read-only. Any idea if they are working to expand this to include Blackberry?
