Some keyboard shortcuts for writing checks

Writing checks probably isn’t your favorite thing to do–accepting checks from customers is a lot more satisfying.  If you do have to write out a lot of checks, a little-known but time-saving feature in QuickBooks Online can make the process a bit easier.  When you open up a new check in QuickBooks Online, dates are pre-filled with either the current date or the date of the last check you wrote.  If you want to change this date to the first of the month you can use the calendar selection tool, but there are a few keyboard shortcuts that might save you a second or two.

Here’s how to take advantage of some of the date field keyboard shortcuts:qbcheck

  1. Click on the Date field on your check
  2. When the date field is highlighted, press any one of the keys I’ve outlined below to change the date.
t today’s date
+ move ahead one day
- move back one day
w beginning of the week (Sunday)
k end of week (Saturday)
m first of the month
h last day of the month
y first day of the year
r last day of the year

These shortcuts should save you a second or two, but hey, time is money.
