We are getting a new URL!

Want to look behind the curtain?

Here is a sneak peek at the new page!   We understand that change can be disruptive, but we’ve worked hard to make sure this one is an improvement.  These changes will allow us to make the service faster, more secure, and provide more features in the future.

So, how does this affect me?

1. Your login page will have a new address along with the fresh new look. Please bookmark it so you can get back to it easily.

2. By the way, you are going to have to allow for pop-ups for our site again. This should be easy and the Help will walk you through it.

What if I need help?

We’re committed to making this change as easy as possible for you and anticipate that you will be able to go through this process seamlessly. Nonetheless, if for some reason you have a question, we are only a click away!  You can access support directly from the login page or from our Support site at www.quickbooksonline.com.

Look for the unveiling of the new login page soon!

About me:  I’m Kathy from QBO Support, and when I’m not helping our customers I just might be driving that Mustang that passed you this morning.

  1. Kent Says:

Hopefully the “faster, more secure, and more features in the future” will include support for the Google Chrome Browser and the Ubuntu/Linux OS. At this time next year, Google’s Chrome OS will begin taking over the world. Quickbooks online version would perfectly compliment many of the strengths of the Linux-based-Chrome-Cloud-Complimenting OS distro. Currently your web-based accounting system works neither with Chrome nor Linux. Any web-based application that’s simultaneously allied with Microsoft and oppugned to other operating systems has a silly appearance to many of us — especially to those of us who have been long-time, ardent Quickbook fans.

    • Actually, Linux works almost completely with QuickBooks Online. I use Firefox, and use the “User Agent Switcher” plug-in to look like I’m running on Windows.

The only feature that doesn’t work are the employment forms filing. The app appears to launch the PDF plug-in, but nothing comes up. The parts for estimate, invoice, and reports works flawlessly.

I have reported this issue to the QBOE people, but since it’s not a supported browser, they are unable to fix it at the moment.

    • Bermster Says:

Thanks Kent for the insights! Much appreciated! As a web app we know how it is important for our users to be able to use any browser and OS that they want. It is a journey and we’re on the way. Thanks for your push in the right direction!

      • Michael Says:

I am also highly behind Chrome support for QBOE. I have been using Chrome since it was first released to the public and it is by far a much faster and simpler-to-use browser than IE. I am also a developer and ALWAYS build support for Chrome, Firefox and Safari is every web app I create.

IE is dominant now, but as Kent said in his post above, Google will be setting the trend for the near future with a full focus on web-based apps, such as QBOE, and your customers will soon demand support for browsers that work well with web apps like Chrome.

Be sure to pressure your developers to always test and build in Chrome, not just IE and Firefox. Thanks!

    • Garrett Says:

I’m right next to Kent, helping him push you to support Chrome right away. Your lack of Chrome support is keeping me from recommending QBO to others. I know Intuit can do it, you used to be on the leading edge – don’t get complacent now! Thanks.

      • ghosh99 Says:

Chrome is by far the fastest browsers out there. QBO runs faster on Chrome than any other browsers. We are aware of it and we know the issues we have on Chrome.
However given our customer base and the relatively small market share of Chrome in the browser market, we decided to enable QBO on FireFox for Mac first.
Then we will fix the few minor issues we have on Chrome for Windows and release it as a Beta like others we have been doing.
Also heard Chrome will be released for MAC/Linux soon , so maybe that will be good time to enable QBO as well ?

    • Mike Moran Says:

I too would like to see Ubuntu support. I have implemented the agent switching trick to make it run, but it’s silly to have to do that. And, as pointed out earlier, anything that requires PDF support doesn’t work. If you don’t want to go the whole way to supporting Ubuntu, could you at least provide an alternative to the PDF process so that the whole system would work? I frankly don’t understand why PDFs should hang you up so. If you create the PDF file and just allow my browser to launch it, it would work. Its whatever screwy way you are calling it that is specific to operating systems and completely unnecessary as far as I can see. Your approach should be to create an app that runs in any browser instead of creating an application that uses specific browsers that you must constantly test and tweak all the time. Less magic and more widespread support would be welcome.

      • ghosh99 Says:

Rendering PDFs on browsers depend on the browser/OS combination and may require that you download and use a specific plug-in for that browser/OS. Hence our dependency on browsers and platforms for printing and emailing. We also use pop-ups and modal dialogs which creates problems in modern browsers like FireFox and Safari and Chrome.
So in order to make the experience perfect for our users, we do limit the OS and browsers we allow. This ensures the browsers/OS you use will be a great experience for you and you won’t be stuck in the middle of doing something important.

      • Chris Says:

I am a big fan of cross platform applications and it is why I went with QBOE in the first place and also why I develop apps primarily in the browser environment. The thing is I make sure my apps work with firefox because I can install it for free on any machine I have, be it mac, windows or linux machines. (I understand that chrome too will be cross platform and free to download and install as well) It makes the most sense to me to focus on getting the app to work well in a browser that is cross platform rather than on IE. Just as a side note, there are now over 8 million ubuntu linux users plus the users of the other linux distos. I for one am fed up with paying $$ every couple years for a new version of windows that isn’t any more stable of secure then the one before it, and obviously I’m not alone. Feel free to ignore this closing rant though.

    • Ben Says:

Are you serious? “Taking over the world.” ??? Wow. I can understand your desire for Quickbooks to work on all platforms. I agree. But seriously, I think we can all do without the exaggerated and obvious bias that is, to put it bluntly, ridiculous.

  2. Soo Charming Says:

    WASTE OF TIME!!!
Trial / free version has way too many features blocked and only 5 customers, a complete waste of time!!! You can not tell what the complete product will be like at all!!!

    • L. Says:

It was only supposed to let you test out some features and see if it’s something that’ll work for you, NOT be used as a full-blown replacement. That’s why it’s called a TRIAL VERSION. And since it was free, you got what you paid for.

      • Bermster Says:

Soo – We hope that the trial version is a good experience. One thought, you may want to do a trial for the ‘plus’ version if you’re looking for more features. Thanks for the feedback!

  3. Leola Geiser Says:

    • Bermster Says:

Ouch Leola, sounds like this isn’t good. It sounds a bit more involved that a quick answer. The best way to get support is to go through our online channel. You can request a call back and (monday through friday) and we’ll have someone give you a ring to work through the issues. Thanks for bringing this up! http://search.quickbooksonline.com/support.cfm

  4. Leola Geiser Says:

    • L. Says:

The best thing you can do is get your IT personnel to handle this matter, since it’s clearly over your head.

      . . . Apparently, so is grammar.

  6. Leola Geiser Says:

Please let me know what is wrong with my Grammer. I am so sorry if this afended you

    • Grammar Police Says:

      Original:
I am changing my web sight Monday to (Qwest Hi Speed) I need you to call me to day I am not working and we need to work this out be for monday to day is nov 21 2009 ( I am on Wild blue by Jade Cmomunications LLC) Pleae help me

      Corrected:
On Monday, I am changing my website to Qwest High Speed. I need you to call me today as I am not working. We need to work this out be for Monday. Today is Nov. 21 2009. I am on Wild blue by Jade Communications, LLC. Please help me!

Also, you offended us grammar police, not afended.

Just thought you might like to know.

(see those red underlines? Those are misspelled words and grammar mistakes)

  7. zak Says:

any chance of allowing direct to word letters such as are created by the desktop version? I have all my late notices to tenants prepared by the desktop version but cannot do that with QBOE.

Also – the tenant center is a step in the right direction. How about online billpay?

    • kpaulsenintuit Says:

These are great suggestions that others have also suggested. We love to hear what would make the service better for you, so we can be sure to work on the right stuff! Thank you for taking the time so share your ideas with us.

  8. Marcia Roy Says:

Why do I have to allow popups? Popups are not allowed now and I can work all day in QB without interruption. I prefer to work this way.

    • Bermster Says:

Hey marcia, the pop ups are intended to share important product updates and added functionality with you. We’ll take this into consideration though when we’re designing the frequency.

      • Sue Says:

I agree that I should not have to enable pop-ups to use Quickbooks online. I get all kinds of ‘random’ pop-ups—even when I say pop ups for this site only. I think it damages the integrity of the site security to allow pop-ups.

  9. Diane Says:

Um, peak is supposed to be spelled ‘peek’

  10. B. Watley Says:

I’m not sure I understand the pop-ups people are getting while using QBOE. I never get pop-ups! Confused…..

  11. Tom Bales Says:

The new URL looks nice. Will there be an opportunity to remove or inactivate the menu choice “Intuit Online Payroll”? We use the online payroll version formerly known as “PayCycle”, which really confuses our clients.

  12. Gail Says:

Not happy hearing I will have to allow pop-ups while working on QB on-line. Sounds distracting and that is something nobody needs while they are working. Rethink this please.

    • kpaulsenintuit Says:

Let me add a little more information on the pop-ups topic. In order to use the service you already allowed pop-ups for our site within your browser. We have windows that open on top of a window, which in a browser is a pop-up. A good example is the reconcile window. To be honest, we are not totally in love with them either! We do have an engineer looking into what it would take to change that behavior within the service. No promises just yet, but that is progress! I hope this helps explain why you have to allow for the pop-up and will have to again when the URL changes.

  13. Joe Says:

Would be nice if QB on-line worked with TurboTax.

    • Glenda Says:

I agree – TurboTax would be great….how about it?

      • ghosh99 Says:

Great idea ! Integration with TurboTax business is also in our radar. We are currently working on some infrastructure work to make many such integrations possible. The new login page is a step towards that direction. So yes, we heard you and we will look into this.

  14. Sarah Jackson Says:

Is there any chance that the online quickbooks will ever show paid on the invoice when you reprint a paid invoice? The desktop version will let you reprint an invoice with paid printed on top of it but the online version won’t. This has caused me grief with my customers.

    • Rich Says:

I agree on this – it causes major hassles to not be able to send n invoice marked paid. Please make this a priority. Thanks

  15. Bobby Says:

How about true support for the Mac OSX operating system? Safari supposedly works, but it hangs up every time I try to use it (I literally have to Force Quit every time). Since Mac Firefox is not supported, I am left having to use IE via Fusion – you guys have got to get cross platform support dialed-in ASAP!

    • Peter Lehrack Says:

I use QBOE all day every day on Safari 4.04 under OSX 10.6.2. Aside from some very minor layout issues, I haven’t come across any functionality problems. There are a few minor annoyances, but everything in general works great.

  16. Russell Says:

We have been filing W-2s online for several years and sure hope that Intuit Payroll Online will have an option to prepare the needed file.

  17. Keith Says:

What about Blackberry browser support? Oftentimes the only network I have access to at work is via my Blackberry, so I have to wait until I get home and boot up my work computer just to log my time for the day. I’ll also add another vote for better Linux support. Currently it works ok for me with Firefox under Wine, but would prefer not to have to use a separate browser just to log my time.

Thanks for listening to the feedback :)

  18. Will the anticipated improvements – or are there any plans in the future – allow one to do year-to-year comparison. Love the online version except for the absence of that feature.

  19. Benjamin Gray Says:

I really wish the intial popup that forces a date choice could be turned off and the current date automatically chosen. I really update the current week mostly and would really rather not have popups at all. Thanks.

  20. Mike Says:

Any chance that the Online version will support PayPal buttons on it’s invoices in the near future. I hate PP’s invoicing. I have my bank acc. tied to my Quick Books so checking off invoices should be easy. But if QB does not support PP’s credit services for their online product I may have to go offline because of the PP Button/invoicing issue and I don’t like the idea of having to keep/track backups!
Great product! Keep up the good work!

    • ghosh99 Says:

Thanks for your feedback. We will look into integration with PayPal.
However if you are simply looking to accept credit card payments for your invoices, you can simply use Quickbooks merchant services that is integrated with quickbooks online !
Simply click on Customers –> Accept Credit cards and this will take you to the sign-up page and show you how to integrate credit card payments within QBO !

  21. James R Dollens Says:

need to be able to edit invoices on iphone, I perform weekly services, but invoice monthly.

  22. Karen Carerra Says:

Since Intuit changed the QuickBooks Online URL yesterday third party applications which are required to get a connection and login key are not working. Any chance of Intuit letting the developers know the new connection/login key URLs? Thanks!

    • Tim Says:

Karen, I just wanted to reply back and let you know we got your message and we are looking into it right now. No ETA yet, but I’ll reply back here again once we figure this one out.

      Tim.

      • Karen Carerra Says:

        Tim,

We have posted to the developers forum and have emailed two members of your IDN starting yesterday afternoon with no response.

        Thanks!

  23. The old login URL allowed me to memorize the password (probably a Firefox feature). The new URL doesn’t.

I understand the security implications, but if someone breaks in here, I have much bigger problems than someone messing up my financials…

  24. Brandi Says:

I’m using the free trial of QB I have the app on my iPhone. I need to be able to see customers past invoices not just outstanding invoices from the iPhone. Is this possible?
